My Most Anticipated Film of 2010

Posted in Features with tags , , , , , , on January 20, 2010 by James

Your mind is the scene of the crime. Inception is a film where entering a dream is possible and the human mind is the most dangerous weapon.

My intrigue climbs to new heights with each trailer released. This film looks to combine the action of the Matrix films with political intrigue and infused with a stellar cast that includes Ellen Page, Ken Watanabe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cottiard, Cillian Murphy and more. I consider Christopher Nolan along with Jason Reitman to be the best filmmakers of this new generation of young directors and this film should be up to Nolan’s Standard. Mind blowing trailers after the jump. Read more »

Marc Webb Directing New Spider-Man!

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , on January 20, 2010 by James

(500) Days of Summer director Marc Webb has signed on to direct the Spider-Man reboot. Webb earned much acclaim from his debut movie, but the Spider-Man franchise is a different beast. Sony wants a more intimate human story of Peter Parker and they’ve given the keys to Marc Webb to humanize Spider-Man in the next film.

Tekken Movie Trailer

Posted in Trailer with tags , , on January 18, 2010 by James

Okay this movie looks ridiculous and overacted, and that’s the beauty of it. I hope there is enough fan service to at least please the general fan base. The video game has such a complex storyline so it’s questionable why the Hollywood execs would choose this franchise. Next time they chose a video game to turn into a movie I suggest simplifying the storyline before moving on with it other than that enjoy the craptastic trailer.

Spider-Man 4 A Reboot

Thank God! That’s all I can say. It has been revealed that the next Spider Man film will be a reboot with Sam Raimi and the Cast gone. While I would’ve preferred that Raimi to stay I believe that this is the best move for the franchise since the last film was so terrible. Read more »

Youth in Revolt (Second Opinion)

Posted in Review with tags , , , , , , , , on January 9, 2010 by Carlos

Michael Cera reprises his role as the socially awkward, yet sweet and caring young  closeted virgin.  As the screenshot above shows, this movie changes things a bit for the young actor, but is this change good? The answer is yes. To quickly sum up the film its about Cera’s character in search for a woman to fit his unique needs. How unique is this character? He masturbates in the morning and then listens to some Frank Sinatra then talks penis taping strategy with a friend. For more insight to the story please refer to the previous review here.

As James pointed out this is the first good comedy of the year, but that is more likely by default, this film has its great moments, however some issues plague the film. The film is sweet and funny, but Justin Long’s mushroom loving character presents a missed opportunity to add depth to the story, instead it just presents film filler. The character felt out of place as to what the story wanted to convey. If there is one thing i hate as a moviegoer its when a film feels too long. This character was the only thing wrong with the film. The rest of the cast is amazing, especially Cera. It is tough to gauge whether Cera truly did a good job as a polar opposite of this usual acting or if it was the sudden shock of the audience. At the end of the day, this  is a coming of age film that gets you to laugh and care for the characters. With my gripes aside, this was well done and entertains. Score: B out of 12

Youth In Revolt Review

Posted in Review with tags , , , , , , , on January 8, 2010 by James

The first great comedy of 2010. Youth in Revolt is the film adaptation of C.D. Payne’s epic 499 page novel that explores teen angst and romance. The film is a standard coming of age affair where a precocious teen goes on a quest to lose his virginity. Does this quirky coming of age tale have enough in it to shed the commonalities that plague teen romantic comedies? Read more »

The official casting call for the new Hobbit film from Guillermo Del Toro has gone public. Since they still haven’t cast Bilbo they chose an open casting call. So this could be a big chance for some unknown out there. (No pun intended) Read more »

Kick Ass Red Band trailer

Posted in Trailer with tags , , , on January 3, 2010 by James

I don’t know what to make of this movie. The action is over the top, the plot looks ridiculous, and the dialogue is stupid, yet it still intrigues me. It exploits rough language out of the child and being cutting edge in lieu of story is now pretty standard in Hollywood, so I wouldn’t be surprised if this succeeds somehow. Enjoy.

2010 Most Anticipated Film

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , on December 31, 2009 by Carlos

What is my most anticipated film of 2010?

It was a tough choice, however i had to choose Iron Man 2 over Toy Story 3. The kid in me still lives, but Iron Man was such a surprisingly well done film i expect the second to be just as good. Don Cheadle’s insertion into the film’s franchise does nothing but help the cause, i feel he is one of the better actors out there.

An Honorable mention goes to Twilight Saga: Eclipse. There is something to be said about a franchise that can beat the Dark Knight. For that simple reason it earns a mention because it may not be my most anticipated movie of 2010, but it will be for many people.

My 2009 Movie of the Year

Posted in Features with tags , , , , on December 31, 2009 by James

Surprised? You should be because this Sundance darling came out of left field for most people. Some would argue Up, District 9, or the myriad of great movies that came out in ’09 are better, but I feel 500 days of summer bests all of those movies with its original and unpredictable narrative. 500 days of summer resonates to the mainstream with its charming yet brutally honest look at the thorny side of love.
